Stans is the capital of the canton Nidwalden in the Switzerland.

By train
Of Lucerne From Stans can be reached every half hour with the Zentralbahn, trains continue to Engelberg every hour.
In the street
The Motorway A 2 passes right next to Stans. Stans is accessible with 2 exits Stans North and Stans South. The place is located between the two exits. From Lucerne the motorway should preferably be left at the Stans Nord exit.

The national cycle route 4 Alpine panorama route runs through the center of Stans.

The place is small and easy to explore on foot.
In the immediate vicinity of the Stans train station are the post bus stops in the area, the valley station of the Stansehornbahn is a 5-minute walk from the train station and is well signposted.
Tourist Attractions
- The Church of St. Peter and Paul dominates the Village square. The church tower comes from the previous building from the 12th / 13th centuries. Century, the rest from 1647. Right next to the church is the ossuary from 1482.
- The former women's convent of St Klara from 1627 served Pestalozzi as an orphanage. The high altar is a remarkable carving by Johann Ritz. The mystical altarpiece was created around 1723.
- The town hall.
- The first section of the funicular to the Stanserhorn. With the original funicular cabin from 1893. The valley station building is also worth seeing. The two upper sections were replaced by a cable car after a fire that destroyed the engine house in 1970.
Nidwalden Museum
The Nidwalden Museum is distributed over four houses. in the Winkelriedhaus, the home decor and customs are discussed. in the Salt magazine Swiss contemporary art is on display. in the Courtier the story of the Canton and Stans is dealt with. And in the Füringen fortress the military history is dealt with. Only the fortress is not in the center of the village by the train station, but outside of Stanstaad.

trips
- A ride with the Funicular on the Stanserhorn should be planned. The view from the revolving restaurant over the Alps and the lake is wonderful.
- Alternatively, the Bürgenstock for an excursion. There the rock path is recommended, which offers a wonderful view of Lake Lucerne.
- Engelberg is also into a day trip destination.
