Stanserhorn - Stanserhorn

The Stanserhorn is a 1898 meter high mountain in the Central Switzerland. Most of it is in the half-canton Nidwalden, but part of the summit also belongs to Obwalden. It is known for the far-reaching view. The Stanserhorn is surrounded by the canton capital Stans with cable car to the summit in the north, the Obwaldenertal and Kerns in the west, the Wiesenberg, known for yodelling, in the south and Dallenwil in Engelbergertal with the cable car to Wiesenberg in the east.

The Stanserhorn was opened to tourists as early as 1893. At that time, three funicular sections were opened up the mountain. Only the lowest lift remains, the two upper ones have been replaced by a cable car.

On request, this aerial cableway also stops at the Bluematt station. A small cable car leads from Dallenwil to the Wiesenberg below the Stanserhorn. The aerial tramway from Dallenwil to Wirzweli does not lead to the Stanserhorn, but from here you can also go hiking to the Stanserhorn.

In summer

In summer, hiking trails lead from all directions to the Stanserhorn: There are trails from Wiesenberg, Wirzweli, Stans and Kerns. There are also some huts on the slopes of the Stanserhorn. From the viewing platform at the cable car mountain station or the summit you can enjoy the wonderful view of the Lake Lucerne, the Mittelland and the Swiss Alps. You can also paraglide down into the valley from the Stanserhorn.

In the winter

The area between Wirzweli and Wiesenberg is accessed by many winter hiking trails. There is no winter sports area on the slopes of the Stanserhorn, the closest is the Wirzweli area. To navigate larger areas, you have to go to Klewenalp or to Titlis in Engelberg drive.
