Scaletta Pass

The Scalettapass, the one from Davos over the Dischma valley and after the pass over the Val Funtauna and Val Sisauna S-chanf in the Upper Engadine has been used as a mule track since the Middle Ages, when a connection crossing the Alps in north-south direction ran from Chur on the 1 Strela Pass to Davos, further through the Dischmatal over the 2 Scaletta Pass and from S-chanf from over the 3 Chaschaunapass (Pass Chaschauna / Cassana) Livigno and Bormio in the Valtellina.

The Scalettapass is part of the route des Swiss Alpine Marathon.

Regions

The Scalettapass connects the valley community Davos resp. the Dischma valley with the Upper Engadine. The top of the pass runs between the Scalettahorn and the Chüealphorn, the pass acts as a watershed separating the catchment area from the Rhine in the north and Inn in the south.

South to Susauna

Of Davos-Dorf, the route over the pass first follows the Dischmabach in the Dischmatal, this is a western parallel valley to the Flüela Pass. Until Dürrboden, the road climbs steadily to 2000 m above sea level. M. at. Via Schönbüel, the path begins to climb the 600 m to the top of the pass, and snow fields must be crossed into summer. There is a simple refuge at the top of the pass.

The descent also takes place without any major technical difficulties, above the valley with the Vallember creek the Wag leads downwards and after a few bends reaches the Alp Funtauna. From here a small alpine road leads along the Vallember river past the hamlets 1 Susauna and 2 La Resgia down into the valley. 1 Chinuos-Chel Brail is the next station on the Rhaetian Railway.

  • from S-Chanf you can go further south over the Chaschauna Pass.
