Schnackenburg is a municipality in the Elbtalaue in Lower Saxony.

Schnackenburg is the easternmost municipality in Lower Saxony and was cut off from the hinterland on two sides by the border during the German-German division. The municipality is the smallest municipality in Germany with city rights, Schnackenburg itself is one of the smallest cities in Germany.
Schnackenburg is located in the extreme northeastern corner of the Wendland at the confluence of the Aland into the Elbe, and was a border town and customs post in one during the division, plus a small protective port in the confluence of the Aland for inland navigation.

There is a small car ferry from Lütkenwisch in Brandenburg opposite, which runs during the day as required.

- A few kilometers southeast of the former border strip is the Stresow border facility, Remembrance of the village of Stresow, which was forcibly evacuated as a result of the border expansion in the 1950s and finally razed in 1974. Von Schnackenburg is the plant on which a little bit Border strip is preserved with all facilities, is particularly easy to reach by bike on the southern Elbe cycle path or the Grünes Band Deutschland cycle path.
