The 370-kilometer route Špindlerův Mlýn(Spindleruv Mlyn) in the national park Giant Mountains to the Elbe Sandstone Mountains on the German border is very beautiful, but also challenging. This section of the route offers a detour via the Vltava cycle path into the beautiful Prague at. After crossing the Bohemian basin, the Elbe leaves this basin in a breakthrough valley in the area of the bohemian and the Saxon Switzerland. Driving skills and good material are required if you want to get through with some problem.

The Czech section is still being developed and is in a much worse condition than Germany, but by and large it is passable.

Germany

840 km

On the 840 kilometers through Germany, the cycle path first leads through the Elbe Sandstone Mountains to the Florence on the Elbe Dresden. In the north of Dresden the Elbe continues its course Magdeburg away. Wide floodplain landscapes determine the picture on the river here. From Hamburg on, the river changes its image again. The river becomes a stream. Large ocean liners use the Elbe here as an approach to the port of Hamburg. This is located downstream on the south bank Old countrywhere fruit trees shape the landscape. The ultimate goal is the big one Kugelbake at Cuxhaven. Here the Elbe flows into the North Sea.

Due to the prevailing winds, which often come from the northwest, depending on the weather, it makes sense for beginners to tackle the route upstream.

An alternative route on both banks is characteristic of this route, provided that there is another bank at the respective point. With the right choice of side you can adapt the tour to your own needs.
