Vltava cycle path - Moldauradweg

The Vltava route connects the Danube with the Elbe and leads from Passau along the Danube and the Mühl through the Mühlviertel in Austria and the Bohemian Forest to the Vltava at the Lipno reservoir. Mostly away from the Vltava, the route then follows Prague and on to the Elbe Melnik. In addition to the rivers above, the 410-kilometer route also connects the two countries Germany, Austria and Czech Republic. A total of 2900 meters in altitude must be mastered along the route.

Actually, the route doesn't start on the Vltava but in Passau at the Donau. Here she follows that Danube cycle path downstream to Obermühl. Here the route leaves the Danube and continues on the Mühltal cycle path along the mill AustrianMühlviertel. over Rohrbach it goes after Schlägl and further after Aigen. From here the route follows the old trade route to Bohemia to the Mühlkreis near Kyselov im Czech South Bohemia at the Lipno reservoir the Vltava is reached.

The path leads eastwards following the Vltava through the Bohemian Forest Vyšší Brod, Rožmberk nad Vltavou now northwards and due to the terrain often the Vltava, across the World Heritage CityČeský Krumlov (Krumau), Ceske Budejovice to Prague. If you follow the route a few kilometers further you will get to Melnik to the Elbe cycle path.

Signage

The Vltava Cycle Path has not yet had its own signposting, but is made up of numerous cycle paths. Follow the cycle paths described above. There are probably no cycle signs at all across the Austrian-Czech border. On the Czech side, follow the yellow bike signs. The section from Prague to Melnik is designated route no.2.
