Sellye [shee] is a small town in southern Transdanubia in Hungary.

Sellye is located on a plain, river Drava flows 10 kilometers. Szigetvár there are 20, Szentlőrinc 22, Harkány 30, Boats 31, Budapest 203 kilometers.

History

The first mention of Sellye took place in 1292. In the early 14th century a small fort was built, which the Turks first occupied in 1532. The Turks finally left in 1689, but during Turkish rule Sellye was an administrative center and was not depopulated. The village became an opidium in 1781, a town in 1997. In the meantime, in 1817, the first Hungarian steamer was built there and floated in the Drava and Danube rivers. (Then Drava was located along Sellye.)
