Central Hungary The most visited region, containing the capital Budapest, the ancient capital Esztergom and the northern valley of the Danube. |
Lake Balaton The region of the Lake Balaton, much loved by the Hungarians for bathing and sunbathing. |
Transdanubia The name "Transdanubia" (Hungarian Dunantul) targets the country west of the Danube (except around Lake Balaton and the part included in Central Hungary). |
Northern Hungary In northern Hungary there are many hills, vineyards (producing famous wines) and historic towns. |
Eastern Hungarian Plain La post (Hungarian puszta) is flat steppe, i.e. dry meadow without trees. To the east of the Danube such is the usual appearance of the Hungarian Plain. |
