Esztergom (German Gran), is one of the oldest cities in Hungary based in the county Komárom-Esztergom, about 49 kilometers west of Budapest The area was already settled before Roman times. Esztergom was later considered the ecclesiastical head of the Kingdom of Hungary.

The St. Anna Church.

The foundation stone of the Catholic St. Anna Church was laid in 1828 by the then Prince-Primate Sándor Rudnay, the church was completely finished around 1837. Buildings

  • The Maria Valeria Bridge. Named after Princess Marie Valerie of Austria-Hungary, built in 1895. It was destroyed twice and regained its splendor in 2001. The bridge was rebuilt true to the original and connects the community Esztergom with Sturovo / Slovakia.

Castles, chateaus and palaces

The city's fortress.
  • The history of the fortress in Esztergom begins around the year 970 AD as Géza was appointed Grand Duke of Hungary and he chose the Esztergom fortress mountain to reside. Today, concrete information about the exterior of the castle can only be proven from 1172 onwards. The fortress was given to the holy king Stephan I. who was born here and later crowned king is the most important seat. Under Stephen I, the fortress was used for important diplomatic relations with other states and is also the scene of domestic political affairs. By the end of the 12th century the importance of Esztergom and the fortress increased enormously, it became the permanent seat of kings. The army of the second crusade, which was heading through the Hungarian kingdom around 1147 Holy Land travels, is supported by the Magyars.   • Szendrey-Karper László Nemzetközi Gitárfesztivál. The "Esztergom International Guitar Festival" was launched for the 1000th anniversary of the city of Esztergom in 1973.
