Komárom, (Ger. Komorn, Slovakia. Komarno) is a city in Hungary.

background

A settlement already existed in the 11th century on the site of today's Csillsg fortress. Komárom is first established in 1249 by a charter from the diocese Esztergom mentioned. The town of Komárom at the mouth of the Váh River into the Danube has always been of strategic military importance. In the 19th century, numerous fortress structures were built at the estuary, but they were already technically out of date when they were built.

After the First World War, the city was divided, the historic city center north of the Danube fell to (Czecho) Slovakia and is now under the name Komarno known. The district south of the Danube remained with Hungary. Between the two cities, once part of a shared city, there is a bridge over the Danube, which can be used by cars, cyclists and pedestrians.

Komárom is now in Komárom small area.
