Senlis (pronounced sɑ̃lis) is a city of Picardy.

Background

The history of the city dates back to the Gallo-Roman period. In 987 Ugo Capeto he was elected king of France in the city. The city of here was significant throughout the Middle Ages.

Even today, thanks to its proximity to the capital Paris, which is only 50 km away, it still attracts many tourists.

The museum occupies the building of the former episcopal palace, known since the 12th century. The building was rebuilt several times: in the 13th century, after the fire of 1486, then in the 16th and 19th centuries, and in 2007 the museum was closed for seven years for restoration, and at the same time archaeological excavations were conducted and found many interesting things, some of which are now on display in the museum. In the basement you will find the foundations of a Gallo-Roman house and, on the top floor, medieval rooms, including a chapel.
