The natural region of Sine-Saloum is located north of Gambia and south of the Little Coast. Its area is 180,000 hectares. It is in this natural region that the Saloum Delta National Park is located.

Understand

It is a delta formed by the confluence of two rivers, the Sine and the Saloum. It is also an arm of the sea allowing salt water to enter deeper and deeper into the land because the flow of the two rivers is quite slow.

Long ago, the Serer kingdoms of Sine (capitals Diakhao, Mbissel) and Saloum (capital Kahone) were rivals. Since 1984, two administrative regions Kaolack and Fatick have been created.
