Slavonia (or Schiavonia, in Croatian Slavonija) is the northeastern region of Croatia.

It borders with Hungary, Serbia is Bosnia and Herzegovina.


Territories and tourist destinations

Urban centers

  • Belišće - City of Osijek and Baranja Region.
  • Bizovac - City with colorful folk traditions and excellent cuisine. There is also a spa.
  • Ilok - Situated on a hill overlooking the Danube which in that stretch separates the Croatia from the Serbian region of Vojvodina.
  • Osijek - University site located on the south bank of the Drava. Osijek is the fourth largest city in Croatia.
  • Požega - Capital of the Požega region and Slavonia.
  • Slavonski Brod - River port on the Sava.
  • Topusko - There are numerous remains that testify the presence of man since prehistoric times.
  • Valpovo - Every summer there is a folkloristic event Valpovo Summer.
  • Vinkovci - Located in the Vukovar and Sirmia region, not far from the border with Serbia.
  • Vukovar - Vukovar is a city with the largest river port in the eastern part of Croatia located at the confluence of the River Vuka into the Danube.
  • Đakovo - The imposing St. Peter's Cathedral is the unmistakable symbol of the city of Đakovo.
  • Županja - Town on the Sava River bordering the Bosnia and Herzegovina. .

Other destinations

  • Kopački Rit Nature Park - Located in the northwest at the confluence of the Drava and the Danube. It is the largest natural wetland in Europe and the birdlife is spectacular. This huge natural park, located about 15 km north of Osijek where the Danube and Drava rivers flow into each other, it is perfect for a picnic (although it is a good idea to bring a good insect repellent with you). There is no public transport to the park, so the alternative is to take the local bus to Bilje and then continue on foot for 2/3 kilometers.
  • Papuk Natural Park (park prirode Papuk) - In 2007 it became the first protected area to become a geopark, with the name of Geopark Papuk.
