Sokołowo - village in Poland, located in Greater Poland Voivodeship, in Września poviat, in Września commune; 2.5 km north of September - by the national road No. 15. It borders directly with September. Known from the battle fought during the Greater Poland Uprising in 1848 and the thriving Combine of State Farms in the years of the Polish People's Republic.

Information

History

On May 2, 1848, during the Greater Poland Uprising, the bloodiest battle between Greater Poland and Prussians took place near Sokołów. Poles, probably approx. 2-3 thousand. (including the incoming peasants), they were commanded by Ludwik Mierosławski. The 1,800-strong Prussian unit of soldiers, consisting of 4 infantry battalions, 2 cavalry squadrons and 6 cannons, was commanded by General Hirschfeld. The Poles barred the enemy's way near Sokołów. The fire exchange turned into a direct fight. The troops of Polish scythe successfully repelled the charge of the Prussian cavalry. Hastily formed troops of peasants from local villages forced the Prussian soldiers to disperse and prevented them from concentrating in one place. At the same time, Polish uhlans walked around the town, getting to the Prussian rear and inflicting considerable losses on the enemy. In the evening, Prussian troops retreated north, to Gulczewo. About 300 people died on the insurgents' side, and about 50 on the Prussian side.

In the years of the People's Republic of Poland, there was a thriving Kombinat Państwowych Gospodarstwa Sokołowo (State Agricultural Farms) in the town. Currently, Przedsiębiorstwo Produkcyjno-Handlowe Agropol Sp. z o.o.

Geography

Sokołowo is located on the Września Plain (315.56), a physico-geographic mesoregion in the central-west Poland, constituting the southern part of the Greater Poland Lake District.

Climate

The region is influenced by the oceanic air masses, which contributes to the mild climate. The area is located in the agri-climate district of Wielkopolska and Silesia. The average annual temperature is around 8 ° C. The growing season is one of the longest in Poland. Annual rainfall ranges from 500 to 550 mm. The town can be visited at any time of the year.

The nearest airport is in Poznan - 81 km from Sokołów. It is the Poznań-Ławica airport. Henryk Wieniawski (IATA: POZ, ICAO: EPPO) [1]. The best access from the airport via the S11 expressway - from the junction Poznań Ławica south to the junction Poznań West, then take the A2 - Wolności Highway to the east to the junction September. Worth seeing

  • Monument to the Battle of Sokołów - obelisk commemorating the victims of the battle fought on May 2, 1848 during the Greater Poland Uprising, located at the national road No. 15, on the edge of the village. The monument was made according to the instructions of Cyprian Kamil Norwid, who wrote in one of his letters: ... On the monument to the fallen there should be a ploughshare and a saber folded in a cross, and a second cross above them. And let this monument be on the first mound, because the grave is an important thing in Slavic symbolism. The monument was erected in the fall of 1848, and its ceremonial consecration took place on November 23, 1848. In 1926, thanks to the generosity of Count Mycielski, the building was fenced with a fence made of stylized combat scythes. During the German occupation, the monument was destroyed by the Nazis. After World War II, in 1945, the building was reconstructed, and in 1961, the monument was placed on an eight-meter-high barrow. In 1998, the property was renovated on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Spring of Nations.
  • buildings of the former Sokołowo State Agricultural Farm with an exhibition of agricultural machinery data and a boulder with a plaque commemorating the award of the plant in 1988 with the Order of the Banner of Labor, 1st class. The road connecting Sokołowo with Ostrów Szlachecki (apart from the gates of the plant with the status of a district road) runs through the premises of the plant.
