Socotra, international spelling Socotra, is a yemeni Island off the coast Somalia. The island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is currently owned by the United Arab Emirates occupied.

Socotra is geographically part of Africa, so historical ties to Somalia are close.
The only notable locality is 1 Hadibuwhich was formerly called Tamrida.

There is very little public transport on the island. In practice, as a tourist, you have to rely on hired drivers with cars.

One comes to Socotra mainly because of the nature: the caves, the beach and the flora.

Socotra is much safer than the rest of Yemen - there have been no kidnappings or attacks here. But the sea around the island is dangerous - this is one of the main areas of activity for Somali pirates.
