Malayalam, spoken in Kerala and some bordering areas in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, is one of the most important southern languages alongside Tamil, Telugu and KannadaIndia. It belongs to the Dravidian, not the Indo-European language group. Overall, around 3.59 percent of the Indian population speak Malayalam. With a total population of over a billion, that's around 37 million people. There are also numerous Malayalis who live and work abroad, especially in the Gulf States. “In Dubai you only need one language: Malayalam!
