Like Spanish and Italian, French is one of the Romance languages. French is spoken by around 130 million people worldwide, including in many countries Africa, on many islands and in France.
pronunciation
The French language contains several sounds that are not used in the German language. The most important of these are the nasal sounds. Often there are also problems with learning the written language, as the typeface often does not coincide with the correct pronunciation and the characters are often not pronounced at the end. You can set up a rule that the consonants (r, s, t, x and the non-nasal n) and the vowel e at the end of the word are never pronounced one set up as a rule that an "h" at the beginning of a word is never pronounced.
However, silent consonants at the end of a word are pronounced if the following word begins with a vowel or a silent consonant with a vowel. Here the last consonant is pronounced together with the vowel in a new syllable.
Now to the nasal sounds already mentioned above. Nasal sounds always appear in connection with an "n" or "m". If there is a vowel in front of an “n” and no further “n” or vowel follows the “n”, the result is a nasal sound. In these cases, the “n” is used to identify the preceding vowel in writing as a nasal sound.
The stress also differs from German: In French, words with multiple syllables are usually (but not always) stressed on the last syllable.
