Springbok is a city in NamakwaDistrict in the province Northern Cape in South Africa.
background
The city of Springbok is located at around 1000 m altitude in a valley of the Klein Koperberge. It was founded in 1862 under the name Springbokfontein, after the first copper mine started operating in the region 10 years earlier. In the meantime, most of the copper mines have long been closed again, the originally large springbok herds have almost been exterminated and that fontein at the end of the name has also disappeared.
