The Sunshine Coast is the stretch of coast to the north Brisbanes in the Australian State Queensland. It ends in the north at Noosa Head, where the Fraser Coast begins.

getting there

By plane

On the one hand from the airport Brisbane, on the other hand to the 1  Sunshine Coast Airport (Bus 622 stops in front of the arrivals hall and runs to / from Maroochydore, Pacific Paradise, Marcoola, Mt. Coolum, Coolum, Peregian Springs to Noosa). Tel.: 61 7 5453 1500. (MCY). There are flights from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, seasonally also from Auckland. An expansion began in 2016, after which more international flights should be possible. There are two car rental companies in the terminal, and there are four more in Cessna St., 200 m further on in the industrial park, plus that Lush brothel (10.00-24.00).Open: 4.15 to 1 hour after the last landing.

Provide shuttle buses to both airports Henry's Airporter (☎ 07 5474 0199; from MCY A $ 18-30) and with minibuses Con-X-ion (☎ 1300 266 946; 2017: Brisbane from A $ 41).

By bus

Apart from the local transport routes, the long-distance bus companies also operate from Brisbane Greyhound and Premier.

mobility

As zones 5–8, the region is still in the tariff area of Translink, of the Brisbanes transport company. Their journeys are made when you buy the goCard about a third cheaper. The railway line of the Sunshine Coast Line from Brisbane-Roma St. ends in Gympie North. This route is served about half an hour to Caboolture during the week, to Nambour it continues every hour (partly with bus connection). The rest of the route is only served twice a day by regional trains.
Translink also operates the local buses (Network plan).

Moreton Island

A national park covers almost the entire area Moreton Island (About 25 miles north of Brisbane). Humpback whales can be seen passing by in front of the island from June to September. Dugongs graze in the seagrass stocks during their migrations. On the island is the highest sand dune in the world with 285 m Mount Tempest. Before a vehicle can be brought to the island, one must Approval can be obtained from the park administration (2017: 1 month A $ 49). In addition to hiking and the usual water sports, one also offers Sand toboggan on, i.e. sliding down a dune on a piece of plastic under your buttocks. At Bulwer you can see three wrecks on the beach that were sunk in 1931 to create an artificial harbor basin. For the purpose of coastal protection, 15 ships were also sunk off Tangalooma.

There are regular campsites on

  • Western beach: The Wrecks, Ben-ewa, Comboyuro.
  • Eastern beach: Blue Lagoon.
  • Northern beach: North Point.

There are also designated “bush camp sites”.

  • Amity Trader is a boat after Amity Trader is a boat between Kooringal and 2  Amity Point. (North Stradbrooke Island). Continue to Victoria Point on the mainland.
  • 3  Scarborough Marina to Bulwer

Caboolture

1  Caboolture (On the North Coast Railway Line). Is considered to be the north end of the Brisbane metropolitan area.

Bribie Island

The large sand island lies off the coast south of Caloundra. Most of it is under nature protection. Before a vehicle can be brought to the island, one must Approval can be obtained from the park administration (2017: up to a week A $ 47.85).

The Bribrie Island-National park begins north of the settlement

1  Banksia Beach (Bus 641). The park is well developed for tourism. There are several picnic and camping sites that can be reached by four-wheel drive vehicles or by boat. It extends as a strip along the west coast to the Spit on the northern tip of the island.

It extends south along the east coast to the village

2  Woorim Beach (Bus 640).

Caloundra

Because of its proximity to Brisbane with lots of day visitors and commuters. Restaurants along the Bulcock Beach Esplanade.

Ben Bennett Botanical Park, Queen St. Little well-kept “bushland park”, in which the original flora and fauna of the region can still be explored.

Glasshouse Mountains

The hinterland of the with its sixteen peaks can be seen clearly from the (still) unspoilt coast.

You have a good view from the 5  Glasshouse lookout, Glass House Woodford Rd, Beerburrum. With picnic area.

The one consisting of several parts Glass House Mountains National Park is over

2  Beerwah (With train station). Several easy hiking trails on the individual hills, the highest is over 500 m, are signposted. You can rock climbing on Tibrogargan and Ngungun.
2  Glasshouse Mountains Visitors Center, Corner of Bruce and Reed St., Glasshouse Mountains (Almost 100 m straight ahead from the station exit and the bus stop line 649). In the same building is a restaurant and the local post office.Open: daily 9 am-4pm.
6  Australia Zoo, Beerwah (Right on Steve Irwin Hwy (No. 6). Buses: 615, 649; there is also a shuttle bus to the train station from). One of the founders of these private zoos was Steve Irwin, who also became known in Germany for his sensational documentaries.Price: Adults A $ 59, children A $ 35.

Nambour

After the end of sugar cane cultivation, the farmers in the region specialized in the cultivation of other tropical fruit monocultures.
The end of the hourly train service from Brisbane is in 4  Nambour (Bus connections to all places on the coast from / to the train station). An administrative center in the farm district that forms the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast.

Mooloolaba

The center of the Town (7500 pop.) Is traffic-calmed with roundabouts and cobblestones. The Sunshine Coast-Airfield is about six kilometers north of the resort, across the Maroochy River. A rather sleepy place, with a comparatively large proportion of evangelical Christians. The UnderWater World Sea Life Aquarium is an offshoot of this international chain. Once a year there is a professional triathlon and a Sydney boat race.

Noosa

  • 3  Noosa. A city with 14,000 inhabitants that is overcrowded on weekends and during school holidays. The three districts are Noosa Heads, Noosaville (on the Noosa River) and Noosa Junction (bus station, post office, shops). Geared towards tourism, there is no shortage of restaurants and accommodation.

The tourist information center is at 61 Hastings St. between Hastings St. and the beach pavilion at Main Beach.

  • Noosa Ferry runs Mon.-Sat. six times (more often on Sundays and public holidays) between the river mouth (at Noosa Head Sofitel) 5  Tewatin Marina. There are also tours of the bay during the week (from A $ 25).Price: One way A $ 17.50, day ticket A $ 25.

  • 8  National park. Recreational area at Noosa Head. With designated hiking trails (Palm Grove Walk, Coastal Walk, Tanglewood Walk and Noosa Hill Walk). Koalas can be seen near Tea Tree Bay. Picnic facilities in the "Noosa day-use area." Good views from the Laguna Lookout. Narrow beach on Alexandria Bay, at the east end of which is a nudist area.Open: Info center: 9.15-16.45.
  • 7  Sunshine Beach. Long beach with fine sand. Strong waves for surfing, especially at the north end.
