Sveagruva (or Svea) is a locality of the Svalbard Islands.
To know
It is a coal mining settlement on the south coast of the main island of Spitsbergen at Svalbard, with no permanent population. Mining has been halted, but maintenance work is being done by personnel from Longyearbyen.
Sveagruva is a corporate city and is not really organized to handle visitors. It is owned by Store Norske Spitsbergen Kulkompani AS, which has its head office in Sjøområdet in Longyearbyen.

The tiny airstrip here serves only company charters, and cruise ships are not welcome. Most of the very few tourists who come this far from Longyearbyen take three days of trekking over challenging terrain.
