The TaranakiRegion lies on the North island of New Zealand. It is located on the west side of the North Island and borders on the Tasman Sea. The region lies in the north Waikato, in the east is Manawatu-Wanganui.

The Taranaki region has three districts:
- the New Plymouth District is in the north, here is 1 New Plymouth, the largest city in the region. Other locations: Inglewood
- the district South Taranaki with the main town 2 Hawera is in the south, further places: 3 Opunake, Manaia
- in the middle is 4 Stratford (New Zealand)
the capital of the region. The district of the same name, however, is partly part of the region Manawatu-Wanganui.

The region is dominated by the volcano 1 Mount Taranaki, also known as Mount Egmont. Mount Taranaki was also 'stand-in' for the Japanese mountain Fujijama in the film 'The Last Samurai' with Tom Cruise.

- Egmont National Park. The national park extends around the Mt Taranaki.

The region protrudes into the Tasman Sea, it forms with the coasts of the neighboring regions North Taranaki Bight and the South Taranaki Bight, Both bays are quite popular with surfers, especially the area around Opunake.
