The region West coast lies in the west of the South islandNew Zealand. It borders the region in the north Tasman, in the east to the regions Canterbury and Otago and in the south to the region Southland.

The West Coast region stretches on the South Island between the Tasman Sea and the watershed of the Southern Alps. It is divided into three districts from north to south
Buller District
At Cape Foulwind
Located in the northern part of the region, it borders the Tasman region,
- 1 Westport
- 2 Murchison, located on the Buller River. The one nearby Buller Gorge swing bridge is a tourist attraction for people with a high level of adrenaline.
- Cape Foulwind, the cape got its disreputable name from James Cook. It is a very popular place to stay for seals and therefore a magnet for tourists.
- The Paparoa National Park extends between Westport and Gray City, here are those Pancake rocks near the settlement of Punakaiki.
- Karamea, northernmost settlement in the district, access to Kahurangi National Park
Gray District
- 3 Greymouth, Capital of the district
- 4 Blackball, once miners and coal mines, now a museum
- Paroa with the nearby tourist attraction Shantytown, the replica of an old gold rush town from around 1860.
- Moana on Lake Brunner
Westland District
- 5 Hokitika
- Kumara is on SH 73 on the way from the coast to the Arthur's Pass National Park
- 6 Okarito
- 7 Franz Josef
- 8 Haast
Other goals
- In the Westland district is the Westland Tai Poutini National Park, here are the Fox glacier and the Franz Josef Glacier.
