Telšiai (German Telsche, Telschen or Telschi, žemaiticTelšē) is a city and a district parish in Northern Lithuania.

Telšiai District extends to the northwest Lithuania on the plateau of central Lower Lithuania. The district is famous not only for its nature, but also for its history, culture, architecture and cultural monuments. Here one encounters numerous castle hills, old tombs, mythological and sacred stones as well as natural objects.
There is a legend that the first resident of Telšiai was named a giant Džiugas was. Also that all the hills of Džiugas is a grave of Džiugas or his wife. There are two different legends of which lake Džiugas created, Mastis or Germantas Lake. So name "Džiugas" and "Germantas" can be seen everywhere.
Telšiai is the capital of the ethnic region Žemaitija, it is the district and diocese town as well as the cultural and educational center of the region. The city, which sits on seven hills, is on Mastis lake. The city is proud of its inner city. This is on the list of cultural monuments of Lithuania. For example: The žemaitisches Museum "Alka" is one of the buildings worth seeing.
Telšiai was first mentioned in documents in 1450. In 1791, King Stanislovas Augustas granted the municipality of Telšiai the Magdeburg town charter and the town's coat of arms. Nowadays the area of the city is 1637 ha. The population is about 33,000. There were writers and poets Vydūnas, I.Simonaitytė, Butkų Juzė, V.Mačernis, P.Genys, E.Cinzas.

- Two-story Cathedral of St. Anthony of Paduva. With two main altars on each floor.
- St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. The only one in Lithuania in terms of its Cubism architectural style.

- Mastis lake. A lake to the west of Telšiai. You can take a walk on the lakeshore. There is a boat rental. There are two islands in the lake, one of which can be entered. The fountain in the lake is illuminated in the evening.
