Trencin - a city in the west Slovakia on the river Vah. Capital city Trencin country. Trencin is famous for its medieval castle situated on a hill above the town.

Characteristic

Trencin is the main town in the western part of Slovakia called "Považie". It is situated on the longest Slovak river called "Vag". Due to its importance and beauty, Trencin is called the "pearl of Povazia". Trencin is a quiet city with a beautiful historic center and a few suburbs. The hockey team in Trencin is one of the best Slovak hockey clubs and its soccer team is also in the top league. Overall Trencin is one of the richest towns in Slovakia with low unemployment and a fairly high standard of living. Due to its location between the mountain ranges, it can be windy. Winters are quite long and summers are not the warmest compared to Slovak average temperatures. Due to new investors and a large number of new construction projects, Trenčín is transforming into a new regional tourist center in Slovakia.

By plane

By rail

You can take one of the frequent trains from Bratislava to Trencin as it is on the main national line. The drive from Bratislava to Trencin takes approximately one hour and forty minutes. The journey further east to Košice takes between 3.5 and 4.5 hours, depending on the type of train.

By car

Trencin is located in northwest Slovakia, 120 kilometers north of Bratislava, near the border with Czechs. Main highway from Bratislava to Kosicewhich is still under construction in some parts, has a direct exit to the center of Trencin. When taking the D1 highway from Bratislava, the journey should not take more than an hour. Traveling by car to Košice from Trencin takes about four hours, a Banska Bystrzycawhich is located in central Slovakia, two hours by car.

By bus

Due to Trenčín's location in relation to other nearby towns, many buses run through it. The journey from Bratislava to Trencin takes about two hours (train is the better option), to Banska Bystrica takes about three hours (bus is the fastest way) and if you want to travel to Košice take the train.

The main local bus station is just across the road from the train station. Tickets can be purchased on the bus.

Getting around

The city center is very small and you can easily walk from one side to the other in minutes and most of them are pedestrianized.

By bus

Trencin has a fairly good public transport system, though not as common in smaller municipalities. Bus drivers sell tickets, but you can only use cash. The ticket is only valid for one journey without changing and costs € 0.60, and for luggage larger than 30x40x60 cm, € 0.25. You need to use the first door to get on board.
