The historic old town of Trogir is located on an island between the Dalmatian coast and the neighboring island of Čiovo, in a strait barely 300 m wide. Only one quay on the east side of Togir is permitted for road traffic. For Čiovo it is the only access for road traffic.

The old town of Trogir is impassable even for cyclists with its maze of winding streets, the width of which is sometimes less than two meters. Pedestrians, on the other hand, can comfortably circumnavigate the small island town in twenty minutes along its barely 1.4 km long bank.

The entire old town has been under the protection of the UNESCO World Heritage.

By plane

By bus

  • 2  Central bus station. Numerous long-distance bus lines go to the port city's bus station. From Trogir you can reach Split in 30 minutes, as well as Zagreb and Zadar, among others.

In the street

From the newly built A1, exit Prgomet, you can be in Trogir in about 20 minutes. The main road leads through the middle of Trogir.

Traffic on the formerly only bridge between Trogir and Čiovo

In the summer there were regular traffic problems on the bridge to Čiovo. It often jammed up on the main road and far back to Čiovo. In July 2018, a new bascule bridge about 550 m long was opened a little south of it. It significantly relieves traffic.

Tourist Attractions

The entire old town was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997 and, with its churches, palaces and fortress, is one of the most beautiful cities in Croatia.

Trogir town hall
  • 2  town hall, Trg Ivana Pavla II / 1; 21220 Trogir. The town hall served as a film set for Karl May films in the 1960s. Today it houses the municipal tourist information office.
  • 3  Cathedral of Saint Lawrence (Sveti Lovre). The cathedral shows remarkable stone carvings from the 12th to 16th centuries. The bell tower's observation deck offers one of the best vantage points over the rooftops of the city.

Cycle

Cycling is particularly possible on the adjacent island of Čiovo and in the surrounding area. There are no established bike paths. The routes are mountainous. Otherwise, as in many holiday areas, heavy vehicle traffic is to be expected.

Motorboat rides

There are numerous rental stations for motor boats, also in the neighboring towns.

Motor boats can also be rented without having a boat license. The price for the boats in this cheapest category is the equivalent of 70 euros. The passable area is specified by the rental company. Still, a few small islands can be visited. It is important to ensure that it is put on carefully, as damage due to the sharp-edged rocks can result in additional costs.

  • 1  Farmers market. Groceries, especially fruit and vegetables, are best bought at the farmers' market in front of the old town. There you will also find stalls with clothes, souvenirs and a lot of junk. Next to it is the fish market.

There is also a grocery store of the "Konzum" supermarket chain nearby. In the direction Split There is a branch of the discount chain “Kaufland” in the immediate vicinity of the airport, as well as a “LIDL” directly opposite.
