Trondheim is a city of Norway.

To know

Founded in 997 AD. from king Olaf I Tryggvason, Trondheim was the capital of the kingdom of Norway until 1217. His first name was Kaupangen which was later changed to Nidaros. Today it is the third largest city in the country by number of inhabitants.

The city is located at the mouth of the Nidelven River which forms a gulf in the Trondheim fjord. Of its past it preserves some wooden houses and some churches. Noteworthy is the Gothic-shaped cathedral of Nidaros.

Over the centuries it suffered numerous fires of which the most infamous was that of 1681. During the Nazi occupation it became a naval base from which submarines left in search of enemy ships.

Trondheim is one of the ports where the ferry docks Hurtigruten.
