The Republic Chechnya (Чеченская Республика) is in Caucasus and belongs to the federal district North Caucasus. It is surrounded by the republics Dagestan, Ingushetia, North Ossetia-Alania and the neighboring state Georgia.

Chechnya is a republic in the North Caucasus that has achieved notoriety internationally through constant wars and conflicts. The pictures of the tragic hostage-taking in Beslan in particular met with worldwide contact. The current government under Ramzan Kadyrov is a double-edged sword for the republic, as it ensures stability in the country on the one hand and commits massive human rights violations against dissidents abroad on the other.
The titular people, the Chechens, are predominantly Muslim. Islamist currents from the Middle East threaten to jeopardize the fragile peace between Muslims and Christians again and again, and so one always feels queasy when visiting the sights that this republic has to offer.
language
Chechen is a Causasian language and almost incomprehensible to outsiders. But you can get along with Russian in general.
getting there
The airport in Grozny is regularly served from Moscow. Grozny also has a rail connection and is served by a through car from Moscow, but due to the security situation the train is extremely strictly controlled by paramilitaries, so that the journey is only recommended for die-hard rail fans.

The security situation in Chechnya is extremely fragile; most states have issued travel warnings for Chechnya. Kidnappings and ransom extortion, especially of foreigners, are still the order of the day.
