Tschiertschen is a village in Schanfigg in the Switzerland, mostly wooden houses in the style of the Walser houses are grouped around a stone church. Tschiertschen is on in winter Ski resort popular especially with families with a good 30 km of slopes. Since it is located on a northern slope, the ski area is considered to be fairly snow-sure.

In addition to winter sports, Tschiertschen also offers a small evening program with a lottery match and theater. There is also a village museum, various hiking trails and a toboggan run.

It was documented in the 8th century. first mentioned as Cercene; around 1222 the property was owned by the Churwalden monastery. Around 1530 the place joined the Reformation, at the end of the 16th century. German replaced Romansh as a language. Walser influences exist in the fabric of the building, but in Schanfigg the Walsers actually only let themselves in Arosa, Langwies and Praden. With the construction of Tschiertschenstrasse from Chur to the town around 1893/94, the town became accessible to modern (winter) tourism.

In January 2009 Tschiertschen and Praden became a common political municipality called Tschiertschen-Praden merged.

Tschiertschen can be reached quickly and easily. The journey always leads over Churregardless of whether you come by rail or road.

By train

Tschiertschen has no rail connection. You can get there by train via Zurich to Chur in about 1½ hours. There you have to switch to that Postbus.

Postbus

Tschiertschen serves the post bus connection every hour from Chur. The Postbuses leave every hour at ten o'clock. However, there is a longer break at lunchtime, so it is advisable to consult the timetable beforehand.

In the street

First you take from the Mittelland - that is, from the region Zurich - the Autobahn into the Rhine Valley A13 to Chur and followed the signs Lenzerheide, Passug and then Tschiertschen, this is where the Bergpoststrasse ends. The road has been expanded in recent years and bottlenecks removed. However, from Passugg it is often very narrow, which makes cruising difficult.

However, especially in winter due to the precarious road conditions, it is advisable to forego your own car and to take the postbus instead.

At the entrance to the village there is a parking lot that can park around 100 vehicles. Driving to the village itself is hardly worthwhile, unless you have a parking space at your accommodation. There is a free ski bus from the parking lot.

The village consists partly of still old Walser houses, Wooden houses in the typical style of the Walser villages. The nature on the slopes around and above the village is worth a trip, especially in summer. Of the Hüenerchöpf (Mountain station of the upper chairlift at a good 2000 m above sea level) you can see all the way to Chur and that Schanfigg up. You can also see the right side of the Schanfigg valley with the villages of Maladers, Castiel, Pagig, St. Peter and Pagig (from left to right).

The office of the Swiss ski school is right next to the ticket counter at the valley station of the Waldstafel chairlift in the village. Classes usually start at 10 a.m., meeting is on the Alpinahang (in front of the Hotel Alpina).

Hiking, snowshoeing, mountain biking

In winter there are several hiking trails from the village up to the restaurants Furglis, Hüenerchöpf and Joch down to Churwalden or Parpan

The Swiss ski school also offers guided snowshoe hikes around Tschiertschen. Information is available in the ski school office.

In summer you can go mountain biking and hiking in the area above Tschiertschen. There are numerous bike routes and the usual dense network of hiking trails.

There are two shops in Tschiertschen. On the one hand the Bazaar, which sells souvenirs, newspapers, tobacco products, postage stamps, postcards and sweets. Then there is a single grocery store that is in the center. There you can buy drinks, food, fresh bread, fruits, vegetables and meat.

Recommended for larger purchases Chur, where there are also bigger shops.

There is a bar in the basement right next to the Hotel Gürgaletsch. Other events are the weekly Lotto evenings and theatrical performances. The tourist office provides information.
