Aliri avie
La airport of Tunisia Carthage is located 9 km northeast of the city center, halfway between Tunisia and the suburb of Carthage, which revives the name of the ancient powerful city.
It is the main airport of the national airline Tunisair, connecting Tunisia with many places in Europe and Africa and with a few in the Middle East and North America.[1] Several other companies, European, North African and Middle Eastern, reach the Tunisian airport.
It is possible to travel between the center and the airport by taxi or bus.
Access by ship
Ships and ferries connect Tunisia with several ports in Europe, mainly in Italy and France.
The main ferry connections are:
- of Italy:
- Palermo - Tunisia (between 10 and 15 hours, usually at night)
- Salerno - Tunisia (usually with a stop in Palermo)
- Civitavecchia - Tunisia (18-20h, longer if there is a stop in Palermo)
- Genoa - Tunisia (22-25h)
- of France:
- Marseille - Tunisia (19-24h)
In summer, connections with other cities can also take place.
The port of Tunisia is not in the city itself, but in a suburb c. 13km away, whose name in Arabic is حلق الوادي Halq al-Wādī and in French La Goulette.
Access by train
Travelers coming from Algeria or from other places in Tunisia can reach Tunisia by train.
Access by car
Travelers coming from Algeria or from other places in western North Africa can reach Tunisia by car. For example, from Algiers Tunisia needs approx. 10-12 hours; the drive is a little over 800km long, of which more than half are on motorways (A1 in Algeria and A3 in Tunisia or A1 in Algeria and A4 in Tunisia, depending on whether one is driving through Suk Ahras or via El Tarf).
From other countries in Africa it is theoretically possible to reach Tunisia by car, but there are many difficulties due to the road conditions and many safety risks.
From Europe you can take your car by ferry. (See above.)
