Tōhoku (東北 地方 Tōhoku-chihō) is a region of the Japan located in the northeastern part of the island Honshū.
To know
Tōhoku in Japanese means "north east". The area is also known as Michinoku (み ち の く).
Territories and tourist destinations
Tōhoku is divided into the following six prefectures:

Akita Prefecture - Sea of Japan and place of origin of the homonymous and famous dog breed.
Aomori Prefecture - The northernmost part of Tōhoku.
Miyagi Prefecture - The area surrounding Sendai.
Yamagata Prefecture - Mountainous area with an outlet on the coast of the Sea of Japan.
Urban centers
- Aomori - The northernmost city of Honshū.
- Hiraizumi - Historic site with many great temples.
- Hirosaki - Cultural capital of the north.
- Miyako - Although the city itself is nothing special, it is close to the beautiful Jodogahama beach.
- Morioka - Capital of Iwate with beautiful rivers.
- Sendai - Capital of Miyagi and the largest city of Tōhoku. It enjoys the epithet Mori no Miyako ("The Forest City"), due to its main street dense with rows of trees and public forest areas.
- Yamagata - Offers the mountain temple of Yamadera.
How to get
By plane
As there are no major airports in Tōhoku, most tourists land at Tokyo. The airports of Sendai is Akita they manage some international flights from China and from South Korea.
