Spoken languages
The most widely spoken language is theUkrainian (74%). There Russian language it is spoken as a first language by only 10% of the population, among other things, Russian is no longer studied as a compulsory school subject since 2006 following a decree of President Viktor Juscenko. The suržik (mixed dialect between Russian and Ukrainian), spoken by 12% of the population. The Polish (2%) and theHungarian (1%) represent the absolute minority.
