the Val de Saire is a "country" of Normandy included in the Cotentin peninsula, in the northeastern tip of the department of Handle.
Understand
It takes its name from the Saire, a coastal river of about thirty kilometers which has its source in the town of Mesnil-au-Val, follows its entire course to its mouth, between Reville and Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, near the tip of Saire and the island of Tatihou.

Story
It was originally an important archdeacon of the Bishopric of Coutances, surrounded by the archdeaconies of the Hague (Cherbourg) and of Valognes.
Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, which was not originally part of it, is today considered to be the main port of the Val de Saire, with Barfleur.
The other important localities are Saint-Pierre-Église where is a native of the abbot of Saint-Pierre, inventor of a universal peace project, and Gatteville famous for his lighthouse. The political thinker and historian Alexis de Tocqueville wrote most of his works in the village where he was lord, Tocqueville. Gilles de Gouberville, book through his diary found in the twentieth century, written in order to record his expenses and income from everyday life, a testimony on the life of the Val de Saire between the and the .
A train called tue-vaques connected in the twentieth century Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue in Cherbourg. There remains of this line of old rehabilitated stations and the viaduct that spans the Valley of the mills Fermanville.

By plane
THE'Maupertus Airport, near Cherbourg provides a daily connection with Paris-Orly.
By train
The closest station to Val de Saire is Valognes, which is on the Cherbourg-Caen-Paris line. The trip between Caen and Valognes lasts on average 55 min, and between Paris and Valognes a little less than 3 h . To access the north of Val de Saire, continue to Cherbourg, the terminus of the line. For timetables, consult the website of the SNCF.
By bus
The Val de Saire is served by lines 101, 102 & 102a of the network Manéo of the General Council of Manche who liaise with Valognes and Cherbourg.
By car
The north-eastern part of Cotentin is served by the national road N13 which crosses the department of Carentan in Cherbourg, passing through Montebourg and Valognes. To access the south of Val de Saire from Caen / Paris, leave the N13 in Montebourg and at the entrance to the village, turn right to take the D14 towards Quettehou. After the place called Les Landes, turn left onto the D12 towards Quettehou. To access the north of Val de Saire, leave the N13 in Valognes by taking the direction of Quettehou then Gonneville or continue to La Glacerie before following the direction of Saint-Pierre-Église.
