Valladolid is the largest city and seat of government in the Spanish region Castile and Leon.
background
getting there
By plane
The 1 Valladolid airport(IATA: VLL) is located approx. 15 km northwest of the city. However, it is quite small and has few direct connections. After it was used by some airlines as a cheaper alternative to the capital's airport in the 2000s, its importance has decreased significantly again. As of spring 2018, only domestic Spanish flights are offered. Coming from D / A / CH, you have to change trains - usually in Barcelona, regional connections are also available via Palma de Mallorca possible.
As an alternative, there is a flight to Madrid(IATA: MAD) at. From there you can get to Valladolid in about 1:45 hours by S-Bahn (Cercanías) and high-speed train (change in Madrid-Chamartín).
By train
Valladolid is on the high speed line Madrid–Leon. From Madrid-Chamartín train station, high-speed trains (AVE or Alvia) leave every hour (even more frequently during morning and afternoon rush hours) to Valladolid-Campo Grande, the journey takes just over an hour. AVE or AVE trains travel in the opposite direction seven times a day (every 2-3 hours) Alvia-Trains from León (journey time 1:10 hours).
There is a direct four times a day Alvia-Connection with Asturias (Travel time from Oviedo 3–3: 20 hours); three times with Santander (3 hours.); each twice with Bilbao (3:50 hours) and Irun at the French-Spanish border (4:40 hours). Out Barcelona There are continuous Intercity trains to Valladolid, but the transfer connection via Madrid is much faster (around 4½ hours).
Coming from France (and the German-speaking countries) you can either travel via Hendaye / Irun in the Basque Country or with high-speed trains (TGV, AVE) via Barcelona and Madrid to Valladolid. The night trains from Paris, which once enabled comfortable rail travel from Central Europe, are no longer offered.
2 Valladolid-Campo Grande (also as Estación del Norte - Nordbahnhof - denoted) is the main train station of the city. It is (paradoxically) on the southern edge of the city center.

As usual in many Spanish cities, there is also a bus station in Valladolid with connections to various cities.
