The only thermal spring in the Canton of Graubünden is located in Vals. The 30 ° Celsius warm spring promotes iron-containing water. It is located in the Valsertal, which is still a German-speaking island in the otherwise Rhaeto-Romanic Surselva. This is due to the fact that Walsers from the area around Zermatt settled here in the 13th century. However, traces of settlement from the Bronze Age have also been found.
