Warsaw (pole: Warsaw) is the capital and largest city of Poland. The city is home to about 1.8 million people. It is located in the middle of the country and is the capital of the Mazovia Province.
Due to its history of rapid development after many years of wars that destroyed the city, Warsaw is known as phoenix city, able to recreate itself from ruins and recapture its former glory. During World War II the city suffered a similar fate to those of Rotterdam and Dresden, as it was almost completely destroyed, although in the case of Warsaw the story is even more tragic. Due to great effort by the surviving inhabitants and then the whole country, the city was rebuilt on the garbage field that remained there after the war. The historic downtown area was recreated, but much of its heritage was lost. Warsaw also had one of the largest Jewish communities in Europe, which largely perished during the war, making the city today an important site of Holocaust remembrance.
Today Warsaw is a vibrant metropolis, one of the fastest growing capitals of the European Union, and its ninth largest urban area by population. It contains a mixture of new and old architectural elements, it is also constantly changing. It is easy to visit for tourists thanks to well-accessible and relatively cheap public transport, and the fact that the most important sights are located close to each other. There are quite a few options for accommodation, a wide selection of restaurants, bars and clubhouses that provide a colorful nightlife. There is a great diversity of museums, galleries and other tourist attractions, with interesting events taking place all year round.

Warsaw (all airports have the code WRW) has 2 airports: Chopin Airport (WAWIATA) and Modlin Airport (WMIIATA)
Chopin Airport (pole Lotnisko Chopina, angle Chopin Airport) is located within the administrative boundaries of the city, about 8 kilometers south of the city center. From there it is easy to reach other parts of the city by train (regional trains S2, S3 and RL go through the city center; the train station is called Warszawa Lotnisko Chopina) or by bus (city lines: day 175 and night N32 to the city center; also 148, 188 and 331). For detailed information for your trip use the tips found in the chapter Public transport. There is also a bus station next to the airport, which can be reached by long-distance buses.
Modlin Airport is used only by the cheap airline Ryanair.
The airport of Źódź (LCJIATA) can be reached from Warsaw in about 90 minutes.
