Veracruz is the largest city in the eponymous Veracruz Provincebut not its capital. In addition, Veracruz has been an important port city since the time of the Conquista.

By plane

Only goods traffic is handled via the rail link to Veracruz. As in all of Mexico, there is no passenger traffic by train.

By bus

Veracruz can be reached by bus in all directions with numerous and frequently frequented connections. The bus ride to Mexico City takes about five to six hours and costs around 500 MXN. The 2 Veracruz bus station is centrally located in the city.

Although it is a port city, Veracruz has no passenger traffic. Cruise ships also do not call at Veracruz (as of 2019).
