background
Veracruz stretches for almost 700 kilometers along the Gulf Coast and inland includes both the lowlands and the cordillera of the eastern Sierra Madre. Also the highest mountain in Mexico, the 5636 m high 3 Citlaltépetl (or Pico de Orizaba), belongs to the state of Veracruz.
Due to the location, the economy of the state is strongly characterized by trade and shipping with the nationally important ports in Veracruz, Minatitlan and Coatzacoalcos.
language
4000 years ago, the so-called Mixe-Zoque language developed here, one of the first ever documented language systems in America.

climate
Due to the different altitudes, the climate in the state includes all climatic zones of the earth in a small area with the exception of the desert areas. The range extends from rainforests with a humid tropical climate in the coastal strip to a moderate climate in the adjacent mountainous region to the perpetual ice on the peaks of the Sierra Madre.
