activities
If you fancy chilling out in the warm water in the bathtub, you should go to the region around the small village 1 Tecozautla drive. There is a whole collection of "outdoor pools" that are fed with water from thermal springs, which promises a water temperature of at least 30 ° C. Furthermore, no chlorine is used as the water is continuously renewed.
Bringing food and drinks and even barbecuing on site is allowed and is celebrated extensively by the Mexicans. Only in "El Geiser" are no alcoholic drinks allowed. Otherwise there is a wide range of restaurants, palapas and shops in and around the balnearios, where you can stock up as you wish.
Camping is also allowed almost everywhere (for a small fee), and rooms are even rented out in some places.
Tip: Canopy is offered in the "El Geiser" balneario. On a total of 4 wire ropes, the longest is approx. 450 m long, you race across the canyon. In between there is a suspension bridge and a short wire rope to cross on foot. Especially because of the grandiose landscape but also because of the altitude and the speed an experience.
A small list (without claim to completeness):
Balneario | Benefits | Overnight accommodation | Specialty |
---|---|---|---|
El Geiser | hottest water (up to 60 ° C) | Rooms and tents | artificial geyser canopy Danger: no alcohol allowed! |
La Cruz | 2 large water slides | Camping | - |
Ghando | lots of shade | Camping | - |
El Arenal | great figures in the children's pool | Rooms and tents | - |
Agua Linda | cheap entry | Camping | not overrun |
On the weekends and especially during Semana Santa (the week before Easter) the balnearios are quite crowded.

- A Chalupa (Spanish pronunciation: [tʃaˈlupa]) is a specialty of southern central Mexico. A thin layer of masa dough is pressed around the outside of a small mold, creating a concave container that resembles the boat of the same name. The result is then fried to make crispy, flat corn cups. These are filled with various ingredients such as shredded chicken, pork, chopped onions, chipotle peppers, red salsa and / or green salsa. Chalupas can be similar to tostadas in many cases, as both are made from a fried or baked masa-based batter.
