  • A Chalupa (Spanish pronunciation: [tʃaˈlupa]) is a specialty of southern central Mexico. A thin layer of masa dough is pressed around the outside of a small mold, creating a concave container that resembles the boat of the same name. The result is then fried to make crispy, flat corn cups. These are filled with various ingredients such as shredded chicken, pork, chopped onions, chipotle peppers, red salsa and / or green salsa. Chalupas can be similar to tostadas in many cases, as both are made from a fried or baked masa-based batter.
