Victoria lies on the island Vancouver Island and is the capital of the Canadian province British Columbia. With around 344,000 inhabitants, the majority of the island's inhabitants live in the metropolitan region of Victoria.
background
One of the most British cities outside of Britain. Here they still maintain the "tea time" in the English tradition. Either exclusive and expensive in the The Fairmont Empress Hotel or cheap and no less successful in one of the many other localities.
getting there
By plane
International arrival by plane is usually via Vancouver Airport. From there, the onward journey to Victoria can be made by seaplane or by land / water. The national journey as well as from the United States of America can be made directly via Victoria Airport.
By bus
In addition to various long-distance buses, which arrive and depart from the bus terminal near the port, there is the option of traveling by public transport from Vancouver (via Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay).
In the street
In addition to the island highways 14 and 19, two highways lead to Victoria. Both come from Vancouver. Trans-Canada Highway 1 takes the northern route with the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaima, while Highway 17 takes the southern route with the ferry Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay.
By boat
In addition to the ferry service from Vancouver (via Tsawwassen or Horseshoe Bay) to Swartz Bay (30 km north of Victoria) or Nanaimo (110 km north-east of Victoria), it is possible to travel by ferry from Port Angeles (USA). A high-speed passenger ferry also connects Victoria with Seattle (USA).

The actual city of Victoria is limited to a relatively small area around the harbor. As a result, many of Victoria's attractions are within walking distance. There is also a relatively well-developed local public transport system in the inner-city area.
