Vila Real de Santo Antonio is a city in the Algarve.

The city is located at the mouth of the river Guadiana, who is also the border between Portugal and Spain marked. In the earthquake of 1755, the places on the border were also badly damaged, and under the direction of the Marquis de Pombal was 1774 in just five months Vila Real de Santo Antonio erected, partly according to the same pattern as before Lisbon.
