Vila do Conde is a city of Northern Portugal.
To know
Located at the mouth of the Rio Ave, Vila do Conde bases its economy on high-tech industries located in the Mindelo area and on other more traditional ones such as bobbin lace making. It is also a fishing port and a popular seaside resort which forms a single agglomeration with Póvoa de Varzim, located a few kilometers further north.
The first document relating to the center dates back to the year 953 AD. The city is referred to as "Villa do Comite" in the will drawn up by the Countess Mumadona Dias (900 - 968).
The foundation of the monastery of Santa Clara dates back to 1318. In 1987 it was elevated to the rank of a city.

- 1 Santa Clara Monastery (Mosteiro de Santa Clara). Founded in 1318, the monastery of Santa Clara dominates the city and the course of the Rio Ave from a hill. The small Gothic church remains of the original construction. The imposing building next to it dates back to the end of the 18th century.
- 2 Igreja do Convento de Santa Clara.
- 3 mother church (Igreja Matriz de São João Baptista), Rua da Igreja. Built between 1496 and 1515 on the site of a medieval church, the "Igreja Matriz" shows a style of transition from Gothic to Renaissance which in Portugal it took on the particular forms of the Manueline style. The finely carved portal is the work of João de Castilho. The massive bell tower that stands on the side dates back to 1573. The interior has three naves. The two chapels in the transept are decorated with azulejos from the 1600s. The gilded wooden pulpit is from the end of the 17th century.

- 4 Aqueduct of Santa Clara (Aqueduto de Santa Clara).
- 5 Forte de São João Baptista (Forte de Nossa Senhora da Assunção).
