Virginia Beach is a vacation town in the Coastal region of the US state Virginia. The name is not deceptive, the city not only has a beach, but is completely surrounded by beach, which according to the Guinness Book is the longest in the world.
Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Newport News together form the metropolitan area Hampton Roads.

First landing: On April 26, 1607, English colonists went ashore here in a cape. They named the place Cape Henry and marked them with a cross. Then they drove into a wide estuary and founded a little upstream settlement, which they named after the then king James I baptized. Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in North America.

- 1 Cape Henry Lighthouse. Tel.: 1 757-422-9421. The first lighthouse built by the federal government was completed in 1792. When you reach the summit, enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay - the same view that ship watchers had more than 200 years ago. Cape Henry's original lighthouse is located on the Fort Story military base and is open to the public. On the other side of the dune is the new Cape Henry lighthouse. It was built in 1881 and is the tallest iron lighthouse in the country. It is operated by the US Coast Guard. Adjacent to the lighthouses, visitors can also tour Cape Henry Memorial Park, which contains a replica of the First Landing Cross planted by the first settlers who thanked them for safe travel when they arrived on land in 1607. Note: Access to military bases may be restricted for public tours and valid photo identification is required.

- 5 Virginia Beach Convention Center. The Virginia Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) manages the Convention Center, which hosts regional and national trade shows, conventions, sports tournaments, and special events, and sponsors some of the city's major festivals and special events.
- 6 Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum, 1113 Atlantic Ave. Tel.: 1 757 437-8432. Located in the historically registered DeWitt Cottage dating from 1895, the Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum displays art and artifacts documenting migratory birds that migrate through eastern Virginia. Exhibits of migratory bird and wading bird carvings trace the development of this unique American art form. Enjoy on-site wood carving demonstrations, interactive computer programs, decoys from historic times to the present, and a collection of exhibits on the history of Virginia Beach.

The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center is the largest and one of the most visited aquariums in the state. An agency for the state's various aquatic and marine environments, it has more than 700,000 gallons of aquariums and live animal habitats, more than 300 practical exhibits, and the IMAX 3D Theater. A half-mile nature trail connects the two pavilions that make up this must-sea museum, and an outdoor aviary provides a close-up view of the marsh birds along the Virginia Beach coastline.
