Vanadzor (egl. Vanadzor, Armenian Վանաձոր) is the third largest city Armenia and capital of the province of Lori, about 130 kilometers north of Yerevan away. About 90,000 people live in it. Previously the city was also under the name Karakilis and Kirovakan known.

The place where the city rises has been inhabited since around the Bronze Age.

From the 13th century until 1935 the city was called Karakilis (Black Church), from 1935 to 1991 Kirovakan after the Russian state and party official Sergei Kirov.

The city was badly affected by the earthquake on December 7, 1988.

The city lives from the chemical industry and mechanical engineering.
