Weener is a small town in Rheiderland in the empty circle (Ostfriesland). Weener is on the Ems.

The city of Weener consists of 15 districts: Beschotenweg, Diele, Holthusen, Kirchborgum, Stapelmoor, St. Georgiwold, Vellage, Weener, Holthuser Heide, Halte, Dieler Heide, Tichelwarf, Möhlenwarf, Stapelmoorer Heide and Weenermoor.Weener is considered the capital of the Rheiderland, which, as a stretch of land between Ems and Dollard, belongs to both Germany (East Frisia) and the Netherlands (province of Groningen).
In 1932 the district of Weener (German part of the Rheiderland) was dissolved and added to the district of Leer.
