• Im Februar gibt es in der Nordseehalle mit 800 m² Eisfläche die größte temporäre rink Ostfrieslands.
• Ende April findet ein kleiner Maimarkt im Stadtgarten mit bunten Buden und Karussells statt. Am 30. April wird der Maibaum aufgestellt, und rund um den Maibaum wird gegessen, getrunken, gefeiert und in den Mai getanzt.
• Ende Mai dreht sich in Emden wieder alles um kleine Fische, denn die Matjestage werden dann in der Seehafenstadt Emden gefeiert. Viele Traditionsschiffe aus dem In- und Ausland werden an diesen Tagen im Binnenhafen und Ratsdelft festmachen und einen Hauch aus der längst vergangenen Seefahrerromantik in die Stadt zurückbringen. Abends sorgen diverse Livebands für Unterhaltung und tragen zur Kurzweil beim Bummeln über das Festgelände bei.
• Während der Matjestage veranstaltet die Emder Laufgemeinschaft e.V. ihren traditionellen Matjeslauf, ein Laufereignis für Jung und Alt über unterschiedliche Distanzen.
• Anfang Juni findet das Internationale Filmfest instead of. Es zählt zu den bundesweit beachteten und international anerkannten Filmfestivals in Deutschland und ist in erster Linie ein großes Publikumsfestival für seine rund 24 000 Besucher.
• The Delft- & Hafenfest Mitte Juli ist ein großes Fest mit maritimen Flair. Mit vielen Schaustellern und abwechslungsreichem Bühnenprogramm wird der Delft zum Publikumsmagneten.
• Anfang August kann man sich bei Emden á la Carte im Stadtgarten kulinarisch verwöhnen lassen und vieles an den Ständen zu kleinen Preisen probieren. Zahlreiche gastronomische Betriebe präsentieren sich mit ihren Köstlichkeiten.
• Mitte August gibt es bei der Emder Hafenmeile auf dem Wasser viel zu erleben. Dann sind mehr als 1000 Paddler und 300 Ruderer im Emder Gewässer unterwegs. Bei der "Deutschen Hochschulmeisterschaft im Drachenboot" kämpfen mehr als 50 Mannschaften gegeneinander.
• Das traditionelle Shooting Festival findet Mitte September statt. Mehr als 60 Schaustellergeschäfte bilden auf dem Schützenplatz eine Meile des Vergnügens.
• Ab Ende November bis Silvester verzaubert der Emder Engelkemarkt am Ratsdelft und im Stadtgarten mit seinem weihnachtlichen Budenzauber die Stadt. Vor der malerischen Kulisse des beleuchteten Rathauses liegt das besinnlich gestaltete Weihnachtsdorf.

Die Nähe zur Nordsee und die Tradition als Fischereihafen verpflichten. Fisch gehört zu den kulinarischen Spezialitäten Emdens. Der Matjes in diversen Zubereitungsvarianten ist dabei das wohl wichtigste Gericht. Die jährlichen Emder Matjestage immer Ende Mai bieten ausreichend Gelegenheit, diese Köstlichkeit in allen ihren Variationen zu probieren. Aus dem nahen Greetsiel kommen tagfrische Krabben. Aber auch Süßwasserfische aus den umliegenden Gewässern findet man häufig auf der Speisekarte. Beliebt ist dabei das Räuchern des Fisches. Auch sollte man einen Blick in die Rysumer Kirche nicht vergessen, denn dort befindet sich die älteste, noch bespielbare Orgel aus dem Jahre 1457.
• Das Fischerdorf 53.5005567.0941674 Greetsiel bietet einen sehenswerten Hafen mit der größten Kutterflotte Ostfriesland, die historische Häuserzeile aus dem 17. Jh., die Zwillingsmühlen , das 200 Jahre alte Sieltor und vieles mehr. Auch von hier kann man an ausgewählten Terminen eine Ausflugsfahrt nach Borkum unternehmen.
