The bird park is the largest bird park in the world. With a size of almost 250,000 m² with over 4000 animals, it is definitely worth a day trip. Over 700 species of birds live here, most of which can be seen in spacious aviaries or areas. Animals from all continents are represented. Many species are also bred. So there are many birds to be seen that were also born here.

history

The bird park Walsorde was founded in 1962. Initially, only water birds and pheasants from private breeding were shown. But the bird park grew rapidly and vigorously. More and more new plants with other species were added. The park kept getting into financial difficulties because the visitors stayed away. Bankruptcy has threatened several times. There have been several reforms and the owners have changed several times. At the moment the bankruptcy seems averted. In addition, the park has been expanded again and again to make it more interesting for visitors. Also shows have now been built into the program.

getting there

On the A 27, take the Walsrode West exit. From here on, the park is already signposted. It also goes on the A 7, exit Bad Fallingbostel onto the B 209 towards Walsrode. The park is also well signposted here. A bus runs from the train station in Walsrode to the bird park.

Prices

The adult pays 16 euros, children up to 17 years (!) 11 euros, the severely disabled 8 euros. If you go with a group, you can also negotiate cheaper prices. The parking lot is free. (Status: 2010).

The park is open from 03/18. until November 1st open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. You can fully explore the park in one day. (Status: 2010)

You can walk in the bird park itself. If you want to see everything, you should definitely choose the signposted tour, then you won't miss anything. You are not allowed to take dogs with you to the bird park, they have to stay at home. If you have the dog with you, you can use a dog crate for him, where he waits until his master or mistress comes back. It's free. You should definitely get the flyer, which contains the most important information. You should also not be afraid to speak to the so-called rangers, who can be found everywhere in the park, if you have any questions. They can almost always give you detailed information.

In addition to the birds, the flowers and gardens in the Walsrode bird park are also worth seeing. They are lavishly laid out and especially gorgeous in spring. You get to see a beautiful sea of ​​flowers. There are a number of wonderful facilities, some of which you can marvel at up close.

What you should definitely not miss is the show feeding (penguins, birds of prey, pelicans and baby birds). The corresponding times can be found on the flyer. The birds are sometimes very tame. Especially for children, there can always be nice contact with the birds. The penguins in particular come very close to you. Here you can take snapshots, but also come into contact with the animals. You should also watch the two shows, the free flight show with different birds of prey on a large meadow and the indoor show. It's really interesting what the birds can do. You can't expect great cuisine in the Vogelpark Walsrode, but you won't starve to death either. The prices are average, so they are not overpriced but not really cheap either. A good solution is to take something to eat. This is allowed without comment. Is no problem.

As in all amusement parks, you should stow your valuables in such a way that they are difficult to access for thieves. You should take as few valuables as possible with you. Then the Vogelpark Walsrode shouldn't be a problem from a safety point of view.
