Wetzikon is a city in Zurich Oberland. It is the largest political municipality in the Hinwil district and the sixth largest city in Canton Zurich. Wetzikon is on Pfäffikersee and in the immediate vicinity of the mountainous landscape of the Zurich Oberland.

The place Wetzikon was first mentioned in 1044 as "Wenzinchofa". Before that, however, people had already lived in the area who made their living from fishing and farming. In 1858 the remains of a pile dwelling settlement were discovered on the Robenhauser Riet, in 1888 a Celtic princely grave (40m diameter) from around 500 BC in Robank. Around 100 to 200 AD, Wetzikon played a role in the expansion of the Roman Empire, as excavations show. On the Roman road that led from Oberwinterthur to Kempraten via Kempten, a street village with a market place (Victus) is said to have existed, which the Romans called "Campodunum" or "Campitunum". A villa rustica from this period was discovered near the Ochsenkreisel, a residential building with various outbuildings.
Wetzikon has changed a lot due to the industrial revolution. The connection to the railway took place in 1857, the Kemptallinie via today's Kempten station was opened in 1876. The population has grown rapidly over the years, with the number of residential buildings increasing from 210 to 904 between 1792 and 1900. Electricity was introduced in the city in 1899 and many more factories were built, including the one First Swiss engine factory in Robenhausen.
Today, Wetzikon is a driving economic force in the region with many companies. The top sectors include mechanics, mechanical engineering and apparatus construction, electrical engineering, electronics, logistics, trade fair, architecture and design.

The closest airport is the airport Zurich.
By train
There are two train stations in Wetzikon, the Wetzikon train station (S3, S5, S14, S15) and the Kempten train station (S3). The central station Zurich can be reached in about 20 minutes with the S-Bahn line 5 or 15. To Rapperswil-Jona it's 15 minutes with the S5 or S15. The S15 no longer runs in the later evening hours.
By bus
There is one Express bus line from Zurich to the south of Italy with a stop in Wetzikon.
In the street
The Oberland Autobahn ends north of Wetzikon - next to the city of Uster. There are currently some plans[1]to continue this Oberland-Autobahn and close the missing piece of Autobahn on the map.

Wetzikon has a very well-developed inner-city bus service, so that you can get to the train station from most of the stops every 15 minutes, from where you can get in all directions in the canton of Zurich.

- Dinosaur Museum. The Aathal Dinosaur Museum is always worth a visit. The museum can be reached in about 5 minutes by train. It is considered to be one of the largest dinosaur museums in Europe.
