Whistler is a city in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Canada.

Whistler Village

Whistler is currently one of the hottest winter sports locations in North America as well Venue of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Whistler Village was born on the drawing board and was only founded in 1975. The ski area on Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Moutain is one of the largest in North America with around 230 kilometers of slopes.

Trivia

Whistler Mountain (2182 m), Blackcombe Mountain (2284 m and the Horstman Glacier) and the Longhorn Saloon at the foot of the two mountains are namesake for the development names of Windows, because the developers like to come to skiing from nearby Redmond.

getting there

By plane

Daily flights from Frankfurt / Main to Vancouver, flight duration about 10 hours. From Vancouver you can get to Whistler by bus, taxi or train, often under 2 hours depending on traffic.

By train

There is a daily train from Vancouver to Whistler.

In the street

The Highway 99 from Vancouver to the north was expanded for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The drive from Vancouver takes approximately 90 minutes. (As of June 2007)

By boat

Whistler has a good bus system, especially in winter, with which you can easily move around the town.
