Volgograd, Russian: Волгоград is a city in the Russian Federation Southern Russia. Before 1925 the city was called Tsaritsyn, Russian: Царицын after a tributary of the Volga. The city is also still under the name StalingradRussian: Сталинград known, this was its official name from 1925 to 1961.

During the Second World War the city was the site of the Battle of Stalingradduring which most of the city was destroyed and around 700,000 people lost their lives.

Volgograd was one of the venues for the Football World Cup 2018.
